Thanks for praying for Row and me this year. Super-appreciated.
>I'm preaching at a wedding tomorrow. It's my first one. Pray I'd speak the word of God faithfully and be engaging. Pray for Marty and Katrina that they'd have a marriage that honours Christ.
>Christmas etc - opportunities to talk about Jesus, good times with family and friends, greater trust in the King of Christmas.
This could well be the final post for 2006. Thanks for reading. I'd love to know what you want to see more/less of on eternal weight of glory in 2007.
Eternal weight of glory has been a bit slow over the past 2 weeks. At least 2 reasons: 1) The blogosphere is a bit quieter at the moment and therefore less comments and 2) I've been posting each day on
www.ccecyouth.com a 12 days until Christmas countdown. I've also reposted them in the bulletins section of
myspace.com/ccecyouthYou can view them on our news page
here or by clicking on each of the links below:
2 and 1 will pretty much be the best ones yet!! Stay tuned...
I started playing with a youth group website back in 2002. Since then our youth group site has changed a stack of times. It has been an effective tool and I believe will continue to be an important means of communication in our youth ministry. At our church we have a significant number of newcomers each year. My guess is that at least half of them have checked our church website before coming (which is a big reason why
it needs a significant upgrade!).
On February 1 2007 - we will be launching a brand new website for ccecyouth.com The
front page and the
news page have recently been changed - but they are only temporary.
I'd love your help... If you're keen to help test the new site - please send me an email. If you know of any well designed websites - please put them in the comments. At the moment we are still deciding between joomla and wordpress - I think I like wordpress--------
Here are our two latest YouTube videos. The
first one is from our end of year party - madde by Renae. The
second one is the announcements from Carols on Sunday night.
Cut vs Buff Tuesday, December 19, 2006 |
Yesterday I used a new gym membership provided by Row's employer for a super cheap price. It's a great deal, it's cheap, and you can go to almost any gym or pool on the Central Coast! The bike and treadmill that I used yesterday each had an individual TV built-in - so it was great to watch the English Premier League highlights!!
My
weight loss goals are going well. But the question I've been asked by a number of people is whether I'm going to get buffed up now that I've got this sweet pass. My answer - No - I'd rather be cut.
What's BUFF? I could easily be buff cos I'm already big - but I don't want to be a big-bulky-beefcake.
What's CUT? I think cut is when you are well defined but not so big that you have to go through the door sideways! I figure I want to be fit and healthy for 2 reasons: 1) It's a good thing and 2) So that I can run longer in the Christian life. I figure if I can't look after myself at 26 then it will be pretty difficult at 46 or 56.
Do you gym it up? Aiming for BUFF or CUT???I'm off to go for a swim with my fancy new pass...
Special Edition:
>Pray for my sister (Jen) and her husband (Martin) as they move ready to start working with
AFES at Newcastle Uni next year.
>They have a dessert night at my place this coming Monday night from 7:45pm. You're more than welcome to come if you know them and are interested in finding out more about their ministry and different ways you can support them.
(can you see the pink shirt bandit in the background!!!)
Hey dudes. More2Life are playing in the Senior Men's C grade Terrigal Stadium Basketball Grand Final tonight. Tip-off is at 8pm. Come with black and white pom-poms if you can make it! While on the subject of basketball - I think that
Michael Jordan is the all-time greatest sports person. He delivered when it mattered... he regularly scored 3-point buzzer-beaters to win games.
Who do you think is the greatest ever sportsman and sportswoman and why? You can't nominate yourself or me (I do come close though...)

(a bonus Christmas present to the first person to answer all four questions correctly...)
Slow activity on eternal weight of glory at the moment... So let me introduce you to my colleague, brother in Christ and friend: Rhett. Rhett is a godly man who trusts in Jesus and seeks to serve Jesus, his family and our church in marvellous ways. This year when he was MC at church one night he said when welcoming something along the lines of: "Hi, I'm Rhett if we haven't met yet" totally oblivious to the funny rhyme he just made.
Dan and I were sitting down the front laughing at him!
Have you met Rhett yet? Here is
his profile from the church website (add some years to the age of the kids + 1 more kid!):
Rhett works as a Assistant Minister: Young Adults and Youth, at CCEC.
Rhett is married to Karina.
"I grew up in a Christian family and benefited from the children's ministry at my local church at Carlingford in Sydney. As far back as I can remember Jesus was someone in whom I trusted and clearly remember as a young boy being thankful that he bore my sins.
As a child of the seventies (just!) I thrived on cream buns at Sunday School picnics, parachute games on the church lawn, the 80's brought wide games at youth group camps and crystal cylinders T-shirts. All of this was in the context of learning from God's word how to serve HIm and His people.
I worked as an auditor for an accounting firm whilst studying economics before commencing MTS (Ministry Training Scheme) at Carlingford in 1994. Where I was involved in the evening church, oversight of the Youth Ministry and the ministry at Macquarie University . I remained on the staff there until commencing 4 years of study at Moore Theological College in 1998. I joined the team at CCEC in 2002 with oversight for youth and young adults."
Rhett is married to Karina and they have two children, Bethany (4) and Josiah (1). They all enjoy the beach and the casual Central Coast culture.
Busy week gone. Busy week ahead! Looking forward to a week off after Christmas! Thanks for praying - feel free to email (or leave in comments) any for you.
>Thank God for the year of youth group. Finished tonight with a party. Good time
>Pray for our nation in the midst of tragic decisions about cloning

Below is an extract from
Andrew Heard's article in
the November Briefing:
A diffeent Jesus. It's published in full on
this website.
As commendable as this is (and in its best expressions it is very commendable), the foundation it is built on – false expectations of God’s promises for prosperity – make the entire package wrong. The prosperity gospel not only misuses the Bible, it seriously misrepresents Christ. This is why a number of leading Bible scholars and pastors, including John Stott, have declared it to be a ‘different gospel’ – not because it denies fundamental biblical teachings but because it adds false and misleading doctrines to them.I love the way that Andrew writes - I think he writes with humility and clear articulation. What do you think of
the article?
... how Aussie does that sound! This post isn't political and I have no intention of revealing how or who I'll vote for next Federal election. But how good does that sound: Prime Minister
Kevin! Kevin is such an Aussie name. While there are at least 2 notable overseas exceptions (
Kevin Arnold from the Wonder Years +
Kevin Federline the nice gentlemen formerly married to Britney Spears), Kevin is a tops Aussie name - typified by
Big Kev.
I think that Kevin Rudd could well make a good Prime Minister - we'll see what happens. It was tragic to hear that Kim Beazley lost his brother on the same day he lost the ALP Leadership - it would have definitely put things in perspective.
What do you think of Kevin Rudd... do you think he'd make a good PM?
What do you think of the name Kevin? Add any more famous (or not-so-famous) Kevins to the komments...
