i wrote the name Paul Potts a bunch of times to see if anyone comes here via the search engines... i'll check my stats... but if you're reading this and that's how you got here leave a comment.
this dude is huge on technorati and other sites like that... he's been the top of the rankings for a week! top

we had a talent quest when i was in year 4 (maybe?) at school.
i did a comedy routine with a friend. i think, from memory, we acted out some tv commercials (coco pops i think) and told some jokes. it was good fun.
i'm really good at naming things.
so if we had one again - i'd go up there and ask the audience to throw out different things (people, programs, pets, vehicles, pastimes) that need to be named... and i'd do it live!!! that would be cutting edge! top

Wow! Stunning indeed. I found it quite emotional. It was a well edited clip too how they introduced his seemingly mundane life before it then to see the contrast of what he could do on stage.
The great thing was watchingh the barely contained shock on the formerly sceptical judges' faces. Gold.
So what's this show? Is the UK equivalent of Idol? I though they had Idol too, or have they just renamed it. top

I was a bit disappointed to hear that he had taken professional singing lessons before and even sang in front of Pavarotti - that kind of spoiled it for me. In the interview with Simon Cowell after the audition, Cowell suggested that the thing he liked about Britain's Got Talent is that they discovered people who didn't even realise that they were talented - even though this obviously wasn't the case here. Still, the idea behind the fantasy is quite inspirational and perhaps that's what counts. top

hey andy - it's BRITAIN'S GOT TALENT.
i think there is an american one.
i think there is an australian one too.
maybe the best way to describe it is it's a bit more like a talent quest? they don't have to be a singer. they can do other stuff too (check out the other finalists - the same user has posted them on youtube - i haven't watcehd them - but quite a variety.) top

hey david.
i know what you mean. it's still quite stunning cos of the self-confidence and bullying issues he has been through.
for what it's worth, the following is a blurb from the description from the above video:
For all those that seem to think Paul is a pro in disguise, please realise the following.
- Bath Opera is an amateur opera company staging a small number of productions a few times each year.
- Paul has performed in just 4 four productions with this company
- Paul has attended some masterclasses in Italy. These courses are designed for talented amateurs. All of these are paid for by those attending.
- A few masterclasses, even one with the great man do not constitute "a formal opera training" by any stretch of the imagination.
- Professional opera singers earn their living by treading the boards night after night week-in week-out, year after year with professional opera companies.
- Paul, has never earned a single penny from opera performance, other than winning a tv talent show in 1999 - the winnings funding masterclasses.
- Paul has not performed since 2003.
- He is not a professional opera singer pretending to be a mobile phone sales man, but rather he is a mobile phone salesman aspiring to be an opera singer.
- An operatic voice IS a trained voice. top
