Prayer Friday #27 + Gen Y SMS
Observation: the best digital medium for contacting Gen Y peeps on the Central Coast is SMS. Email, web, myspace, facebook, etc... are all good things... but Gen Y peeps have their mobile phones with them at all times. I send out emails each week to leaders, we have a youth group website, we have a weekly breaking news email... but if I want an instant and reliable response from leaders - SMS is the way to go.
Why am I saying this? Just thought of it. If I think of something again on a Prayer Friday - I might post it again! Stay tuned for the next observation...
PRAYER:
ps - Ben reckons this is the funniest 5 second vid on the net... what do you think?
pps - Dave vs Dan: 1-0.

PRAYER:
1) Thank God for the gospel of Jesus. It's all about JESUS. Trust him. Love him.
2) Pray for swingintoaction - still need to sign up more campers
3) Pray for LOST N FOUND Bible talks & studies that I'm preparing
4) Pray that I'd pray more. Pray that you'd pray more.

Re: Observation
I agree that sms tends to be the best way to communicate with leaders. I almost always get a reply to sms's...whereas email, myspace etc is far less guaranteed (or at least not as quickly).
For communicating with youth kids however, I think we need to be more careful in our use of sms - as it is much more of a 'private' system (meaning that it is much harder for other people to keep us accountable with what we are saying)
Also - not sure if you have heard of the CYIADA Project (check out their website here). It's currently in development (Sydney based), but they have some pretty exciting plans - especially for "a messaging system that lets you send both e-mail & SMS quickly and easily — keeping leader-youth communication accountable and open" top

Re: Video
There's no way that is the funniest five second video on the internet. It does get funnier the more you watch it though. I didn't even crack a smile the first time, but was almost laughing by about the sixth time around... top

I did NOT say it was the funniest five second video on the web. I said I thought it was hilarious and that there are some who are saying it's the funniest five second video on the web.
And yes, you have to watch it way more than just once. top
